As for Madeira and the Algarve, there was a year-on-year decrease of 10% and 3%, respectively, in variation, in this indicator.

Cristina Siza Vieira, executive president of the Hotel Association of Portugal, says that «October was globally good for the national hotel industry».

«The analysis by NUTS allows us to register with great satisfaction that, despite the fires, the destinations in the center of the country (in terms of Tourism Monitor we are talking about four: Beiras, Coimbra, Oeste and Leiria/Fátima/Templários) continue on the ascending path of affirmation . First, in terms of comparative performance, there was another destination that still has a lot of room to grow: the Alentejo (8,5% more)», he adds.

"Notwithstanding the fact that the big cities have been the champions of absolute results, this search for other regions is showing that the bet on diversification is gaining ground", he concludes.
