The Parliamentary Group d'”Os Verdes” confronted the Ministry of the Sea with “the lack of training in the fishing sector”, namely in the Algarve region, which “is jeopardizing the very rejuvenation of professionals in the sector and thus its sustainability ».

«According to information that we have collected in some areas of the country and in particular in the Algarve, there has been demand for the Fisherman's course, but training is stagnant, due to the lack of funds from FOR-MAR (Professional Training Center for Fisheries and the Sea)», illustrated the deputy José Luís Ferreira, of this party.

Recently, Quarpesca – Association of Fishermen Shipowners of Quarteira, went public to denounce this situation. The association revealed that it suggested three training actions held at its facilities this year, as it had 47 registered "only for the fisherman's course", having been told that "all the training at the For-Mar de Olhão pole it is stagnant due to lack of funds, similar to what happens all over the country».

“The Greens” took the issue to the Assembly of the Republic and urged the Government to clarify whether “in a large part of the country the professional training of new fishermen is stagnant due to lack of funds in FOR-MAR”.

“What is the future for the fisheries sector when the elementary measure that is the training of fishermen is failed?”, asked the same party.
