Oven-roasted pork or goat loin with orange, kebab with orange sauce, “Al Mutamid” orange salad or pepper pizza, orange jelly and loin are some of the delicacies at the 19 restaurants in Silves that, from 24th to 26th November, participate in the 2nd Weekend with Flavor a Orange.

To whet the appetite for this initiative, the Municipal Market of Silves hosted a launch event on Saturday. Those who visited the place were able to see – because the eyes also eat – and taste some of the restaurants' proposals.

According to the Municipality of Silves, the Weekend with Flavor a Orange «aimed at promoting this emblematic product of the municipality and its unique and recognized characteristics for many years, namely the sweetness, quantity of juice and delicacy of exceptional aromas» and will bring together local restaurants, which will present on their menus "specially prepared dishes using orange as an ingredient".

Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, told the Sul Informação that, this year, the restaurants were «very creative in associating oranges with the dishes» and that the number of participating establishments «increased considerably compared to last year».

In the first edition of the event, says the mayor, “people were a little reticent and, at the same time, curious about how they would add oranges to their dishes. This despite the fact that sometimes they already do. There are those who make porridge and add orange juice and the brains also take orange juice. And these are dishes from this time of year».

According to Rosa Palma, “most of the dishes are already on the menu but, at this point, they are recommended more often. These initiatives make people leave their homes to try a new “dish”».

In the first edition, the restaurants had “greater influx of customers, many of them residents. The aim is to promote the orange and bring more people to the county. Silves has several campervan service areas and motorhome drivers embrace this initiative and get to know the typical dishes of the area. They love this!” concludes Rosa Palma

Crepes with jam and orange zest, cinnamon and almonds or with orange juice, chocolate filling and orange chips, "Al Mutamid" Orange Salad, with orange, dried fig, roasted almond, muxama, allspice, olive oil , fleur de sel, or orange pie. All these delicacies can be tasted at establishments in the city that adhere to the initiative and will be marked with a “Silves Capita da Laranja” brand name.

The participating restaurants, 19 in total, will be the following: Al-Karib, A Ladeira, A Mesquita, Bistro Ugo Art Café, Café Castelo de Silves, Café da Sé, Cafeteria Chapim, Casa Velha, Churrasqueira Valdemar, Lendas & Mitos, O Barradas, O Pina, Pérola do Arade, Roman Bridge, Central Snack Bar, Snack Bar at Pé do Tio, Snack Vira Copos, Sushi Love and Tasca do Bené.

Over the three days of the event, the entertainment in the restaurants will be guaranteed by the Academic Duo and the Duo Fole'Percussion.

Organized by the Municipality of Silves, the event has the support of several partner entities, namely the Parish Council of Silves, the Silves Sul School Group and the Algarve Wine Route.
