Ana Fernandes, researcher in the Functional Genomics of Cancer group, led by Ana Teresa Maia, from the Center for Research in Biomedicine (CBMR) of the University of Algarve (UAlg), has just been distinguished with the “Prize for Basic Research”, awarded by Portuguese Society of Human Genetics, to the best work in the field of human genetics.

The distinction aims, therefore, to reward the communication “miRNA-mediated cis-regulation in breast cancer susceptibility”, presented on November 17th, at the 21st Annual Meeting of the Portuguese Society of Human Genetics.

In the communication in question, the researcher "addressed the contribution of cis-regulatory genetic variants, which affect the regulation of microRNAs, to breast cancer", explains UAlg.

For the researcher, this distinction is of special importance since, as she highlights, «receiving this award is not only a recognition of the work carried out during the last year, but also of the quality of the research carried out at the CBMR».
