The Centro Ciência Viva (CCV) of Lagos participates in the Science Center World Summit which takes place in the Miraikan Museum (Museum of Science and Innovation), in Tokyo, between the 15th and 17th of November.

The theme of this summit, which takes place every three years, aims to bring together professionals from Museums and Science Centers, with the theme of this edition being the promotion of world relations for a sustainable future.

The representation of CCV Lagos is the responsibility of its executive director, Luís Azevedo Rodrigues, who, in addition to participating in the Forum of Directors of Science Centers and Museums, today, the 14th, will also present the work that the Center has carried out with the senior community, through its program A Ciência Não Tem Age.

The communication "Senior Citizens and Science Centers – New Opportunities for Old Schoolers” is part of the session dedicated to Involvement of Various Audiences, one of the several thematic sessions at this World Summit. In addition to CCV Lagos, this session will include professionals from the USA, South Africa, Japan and Thailand.

The Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos published this week, in the magazine “Spokes” by Ecsite, the largest association of Museums and Science Centers in Europe, an article analyzing the work of science communication for senior citizens.

Presenting the work carried out by the CCV in the municipalities of Lagos and Silves, this feature article also reviews the needs and opportunities of the so-called “Longevity Revolution”, a demographic change that is taking place worldwide, and the lack of investment and work in Science and Technology communication with the senior community.

In addition to this social responsibility of increasing scientific literacy, namely health literacy, the article, by Luís Azevedo Rodrigues and Sara Mira, both from CCV Lagos, also highlights the window of opportunity that this growing range of consumers may represent. for many economic activities, within the scope of the so-called “Silver Economy” (Silver Economy), namely the cultural and scientific activities carried out by the Museums and Science Centers.
