Aljezur will have one more family doctor at the Personalized Health Care Unit (UCSP) of the local Health Center. The Aljezurense Chamber announced that the professional who will settle in the municipality will come under the incentive scheme for geographic mobility to needy areas, with the help of the local authority, which has guaranteed the accommodation of the new doctor.
According to the Municipality of Aljezur, the Barlavento II Health Centers Group informed the municipality that it would place a new family doctor at the UCSP in Aljezur and requested the municipality's collaboration, "in order to promote housing for the doctor in question, as a complement to the mobility incentive scheme'.
«Sensitive to the issue and in view of the possibility of, certainly for the first time in many years, guaranteeing a family doctor to all users registered in the “health center” (UCSP de Aljezur), guaranteeing more and better health care to the municipality's population , the City Council approved the collaboration with ACES Barlavento II, guaranteeing the support requested through the rental of housing for the new doctor», revealed the City Council of Aljezurense.
As the municipality explained, «the entire Algarve region focuses its economy on the tourism product, an activity that also determines the housing market, not only making the search for a house difficult, but also significantly inflating the cost of renting».
“Thus, our attractiveness as a holiday destination is not compatible with the establishment of the necessary professionals in the region, when they are faced with the demand for housing. This is also a concern of the municipality, because it is a determining factor for the quality of the provision of public services, specifically in the area of health, and administrations have progressively abandoned and stopped promoting the old "function houses", which were also an incentive to the mobility of workers in the public administration», added the Chamber of Aljezur.
In this way, it was the municipality itself that “come to the fore” and guarantee a house for the doctor who decided to settle in the municipality.
