Citizenship and sustainable development will be in focus at the Education Week and Environmental Volunteer Initiatives (SEIVA), which the Portuguese Environment Agency, through the Hydrographic Region Administration (ARH) of the Algarve, will promote between the 23rd and 29th of October and that it will reach several municipalities in the region.

The program includes dozens of initiatives, from training activities to activities related to education and environmental volunteering, through cinema, exhibitions and the 8th Regional Meeting of Environmental Volunteering for Water (ERVAA).

This is the first time that SEIVA takes place in the Algarve. This event aims, according to its organizers, «to mobilize the population of the Algarve to reflect on the main challenges of sustainable development and the importance of their participation in decision-making processes, in order to contribute to the participatory management of resources and to the deepening scientific and didactic knowledge of teachers and other sustainability education agents».

The target audience is “school communities, in particular primary and secondary school teachers, technicians from regional and local public administration, companies, non-governmental environmental organizations and business, professional, cultural and recreational associations, among others”.

SEIVA will pass in almost all Algarve counties, where different actions will be promoted. Throughout the week there will be eight seminars/training actions, 22 environmental volunteering activities, 18 environmental education activities in different schools, 19 visits to infrastructure and equipment for environmental education, the film “Right Juice”, by Kristjan Knigge , as part of the FRONTEiRAS International Film Festival, there will be two sessions of short films about the oceans and the ODS 2030, six exhibitions on environmental themes will be seen and the ERVAA will be held, which this year is under the theme “Citizenship and Development – ​​Strategies for School Communities”.

This last initiative is scheduled for the 25th of October, at 14:30 pm, in the Auditorium of the Algarve Regional Development Coordination Commission, in Faro. Participants can count on conferences and a round table where representatives of the University of the Algarve, the Portuguese Environment Agency, the General Directorate of Education (to be confirmed), the João de Deus School Group and the Live Science Center will be seated. Algarve.

Registration for the different SEIVA activities and for the meeting are free, but mandatory, and must be made by October 18th. Information on how to participate in these actions can be obtained on the Environmental Volunteering for Water website.
