The painting exhibition “Solidariedade” opens on November 11, at 15 pm, at the Convento de S. José, in Lagos, and the responsible artist Francisca Sebastião will donate the proceeds from the sale of the paintings to the Lagoa Volunteer Firefighters.

This oil painting on canvas exhibition will be open until December 12th.

Francisca Sebastião was born in Monchique and lives in Lagoa, where she had her first exhibition (Fatacil) in 1988. «A self-taught painter, she has already held several exhibitions in the Algarve, having works in several countries, as a result of her commitment to taking her art to the world. meeting of those who appreciate oil painting», says Câmara de Lagoa.

The exhibition originated in the sense of solidarity of Francisca Sebastião, expressed in this text of her authorship: «September 8, 2016. You couldn't see the sun shrouded in smoke. Ash fell on us, and everywhere the heat of the fire was a huge, red ball. We knew that the places of Senhora do Verde, Montes de Cima and Alcalar, the whole area was a hell of flames and flames, which licked everything they found along the way».

“In the afternoon of that day, my husband came home and said that the firefighters had made an appeal, asking for cotton and cream socks. He, having just said these words, burst into tears. And me too. Brave men and women who, despising their own lives, fight for the lives of others, who sometimes give their lives for them.
I felt inside me an unrestrained desire to help these warriors, but I didn't quite know how», he says.

«Suddenly there was light! At that moment I already knew how to give something to the firefighters. To be able to help those who help so much. I am a self-taught painter. God gave me the grace to be able to paint and, at that moment of realization, what now materializes in reality came into my mind: a painting exhibition. To top it off, my mission would be to make every cent, every euro, of every painting sold revert entirely to the firefighters of Lagoa», he concludes.
