Ceremony takes place at the Centro Cultural de Lagos

The city of Lagos will honor ten personalities on City Day, in honor of its patron São Gonçalo de Lagos, which is celebrated this Friday, the 27th of October. The solemn session, where tributes will be given, is scheduled for 15:30 pm, in the Duval Pestana auditorium, of the Centro Cultural de Lagos.

The Câmara de Lagos explains that «the tradition of Portuguese municipalities to pay homage to individuals and entities that, by their activity, for the greatest example, life history, works, studies, entrepreneurship, tenacity, contribution to the progress of knowledge, to the aggrandizement of culture, through sporting achievements and virtues, stand out in the community, and public recognition by the City Council, the Municipal Assembly and citizens is justifiably deserving».

The list of honored names was approved by the Chamber, at the extraordinary meeting on 23 August, and ratified by the Municipal Assembly, at the ordinary session on 5 September.

 

List of honorees:

Lazarus of Jesus Galvão who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Gold), in attention, homage and recognition for their altruism, namely in rescuing shipwrecked people, between Lagos and Sagres, during World War I.

Jose Antonio Martins Flosa who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Gold), in attention, homage and recognition of his dedication and work developed in favor of music, namely in the Band of Sociedade Filarmónica 1º de Maio, of which he was conductor.

José Manuel da Gloria Freire de Oliveira who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Gold), in attention, homage and recognition of the relevance of their role in the various Local Government bodies, over their 40 years.

Silvestre Marchão Ferro who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Gold), in attention, homage and recognition of their strong contribution to the Lagos/Palos de La Frontera Gemination, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

D. Diego Garcia Hernandez who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Gold), in attention, homage and recognition of their strong contribution to the Lagos/Palos de La Frontera Gemination, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

Paulo Jose Rosado Batista who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Silver degree), in attention, homage and recognition of their strong contribution in the sports area, namely in the skating discipline.

Velaudmiro Pereira Betes who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Silver degree), in attention, homage and recognition of the work developed in the area of ​​sports health, namely as a masseuse.

Antonio Manuel Chaparro Gomes who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Silver degree), in attention, homage and recognition of his entrepreneurship as an entrepreneur in the restaurant and hotel industry.

Antonio Alves dos Santos who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Silver degree), in attention, homage and acknowledgment of their testimony in favor of the agricultural world, embodied in the “Museu da Ramada”.

Claudia Teresa Pires Neto who will be awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit (Silver degree), in attention, homage and recognition for her career as an international soccer player and captain of the national women's soccer team.
