«The municipal weight of young social-democrats has increased» in the Algarve, with the young mayors of the JSD rising from five to 14 in the region. The highlight goes to Carlos Gouveia Martins, who was head of the list of the coalition «Servir+Portimão» to the Municipal Assembly of Portimo, and Bruno Alexandre, who headed the candidacy of the PSD/CDS/MPT/PPM to the Parish Council of Olhão.

Recognizing that at the level of the presidencies of Municipal Councils, and of Parish Councils, the result of the PPD/PSD was less than expected, JSD/Algarve highlights the significant increase of young people in the structure directly elected in various municipal bodies in the district.

"Several years have passed since a Local Election where two heads of list were young leaders" of the JSD, stresses this political structure.

In both cases, add the young oranges, there was an increase in votes, in relation to the results of the PSD four years ago, in the 2013 Autárquicas.

Taking into account that, in the past municipal mandate, between 2013-2017, with the subsequent swearing in of some young people, JSD/Algarve reached eight mandates in the district, the District Political Commission now believes that «we have about 10 young people who stayed one or two mandates from being elected and it is natural that, in the current mandate, we reach about 20 mandates”».

Carlos Gouveia Martins, regional president of JSD and now municipal deputy in Portimão, also refers, without hiding the fact, that «if it happens, it will be one of the biggest representations ever in the JSD/Algarve district».

On the other hand, he stressed, «today we have local representation in Portimão, Lagos, Silves, Monchique, Albufeira or Castro Marim», as well as in other municipalities where they maintained their representation.

The District Political Commission of JSD/Algarve will meet on the 4th of November, in Portimão, to, among other matters, analyze the municipal results of the 1st of October.
