Abílio Silva, president of Sociedade Filarmónica Silvense, died this Thursday, 26th of October, aged 80 years.
The Chamber of Silves, in a note of regret, recalls that «Mr. Abílio, as he was known by all, was born in 1939 in the city of Silves, having dedicated a great part of his time, throughout his 80 years of life, to Silvense Philharmonic Society, whose formation dates back to 1933».
According to the municipality, “his dedication to this institution is reflected in the fact that he held the position of president for 33 years, a fact that made him an emblematic figure of the city and present in the memories of countless generations of natives who made the his musical training in this institution».
The Chamber believes that "these memories will make him stay alive as one of the figures of the local culture".
Abílio Silva's funeral is scheduled for this Saturday, October 28, at 10:30 am, from the Capela dos Mártires, to the Silves Cemetery.
