Secondary school students from all over the country can apply for their scientific projects for the “FAQtos” award until the 27th of October.

The 5th consecutive edition of this award will have the theme "Society and Radiofrequencies", addressing applications of telecommunications systems and contributing to collective clarification on the issue of electromagnetic fields from telecommunications sources and their potential effects on health and the environment.

Among the works of young scientists who won previous editions of the competition, there are, for example, a device to detect forest fires, a microcontroller system that helps blind people to identify obstacles, a solution that measures a patient's pulse and body temperature. on hold in the screening of a hospital and a study on the influence of radio frequencies on the neurobehavior of larvae.

To be developed throughout the school year and with several eliminatory stages to overcome, candidates for the "FAQtos" will, at the end, be evaluated by a jury composed of representatives from the General Directorate of Education, General Directorate of Health, Faculty of Pharmacy, Instituto Superior Técnico and the Institute of New Technologies (INOV-INESC).

The three best projects are guaranteed prizes between 500 and 1500 euros, which include the guiding teachers and the schools they represent.
