Communicating, by video and voice, with family members, or playing letter soup and crossword puzzles are possibilities of the “SiosLIFE” interactive system that is already available to seniors at the Senior Centers in Lagoa and Carvoeiro.
This tool “enables cognitive and physical stimulation, simplified communication, promotion of creativity, religious worship, among many other multimedia contents, for the elderly”, according to the União de Freguesias de Lagoa e Carvoeiro.
Everything is done in a simple way «on a touch screen, without mice, commands or keyboards».
“Anyone, even without knowing how to read or write, can take advantage of this interactive system”, he adds.
Professionals are also provided with a monitoring and control platform, which can be accessed through any equipment in the institution that is connected to the Internet.
In this, in addition to the detailed record of all usage, graphs of the evolution of each user can be viewed in various parameters.
This is an experiment that the Union of Parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro is carrying out, for four months, to understand the adhesion and impact on the users of the senior centres, to then assess whether it moves towards the acquisition of the system.
