Nandini Singla, ambassador of India, went this Wednesday, September 13, to Albufeira, where she was received by Carlos Silva e Sousa, president of the City Council. 

The ambassador was accompanied by the director of the MGM group Luís Costa, the first secretary of the Embassy Amararam Gurjar and its secretary Pankaj, and «came to propose friendly relations between the Municipality of Albufeira and other Indian municipalities, as well as the establishment of partnerships at the business level”, explains the Chamber.

Nandini Singla, who is India's 16th head of mission in Portugal, highlighted the strong links between the two countries that have one of the oldest relations in the world with more than 500 years of history, reinforcing the recent rapprochement between the two states « embodied in a cooperation agreement centered on sectors such as education, sport, culture, tourism, film and entertainment industries, among others, which aims to explore the complementarities existing between Portugal and India».

“Today, India has a population of 1,21 billion people, and by 2030 it is expected to be the world's third largest economy. In terms of tourism, it is a market with enormous potential, with an estimated 13 million Indians traveling abroad in the next three years», says the municipality of Albufeire.

Indian tourists travel as a family and spend the most on accommodation, food, tours and shopping, according to data from the tour operator Cox & Kings.

During the meeting, Carlos Silva e Sousa highlighted that Albufeira is a cosmopolitan municipality that represents about 44% of the tourist capacity of the Algarve and counts among its community with people of different nationalities, noting that «currently we have children of more than 40 different nationalities to attend our educational establishments which are properly integrated'.

The mayor also heard «all the proposals presented by Nandini, with emphasis on the collaboration in holding a seminar in the area of ​​Tourism and Hospitality, a cultural show with an Indian Dance Company and collaboration in the establishment of business partnerships».
