With maritime containers, recovered wood and volunteer work, the headquarters of Altimetria was built, which was inaugurated last Friday. The building, which has a gym, classrooms, a bicycle shop and a bar, is a dream come true for the association and an asset to Parque Ribeirinho de Faro, which gains more life.
Nuno Guerreiro, president of Altimetria Associação Desportiva, whose main activity is the BTT, was visibly satisfied and proud of the new headquarters, which made a point of showing, room by room, Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro.
“We used the goodwill of the partners for the construction. We used reused maritime containers and the wooden notes were made using wood from a house that was here and that was dismantled», said Nuno Guerreiro.
And the mayor was "pleasantly surprised by what was done here."
For Rogério Bacalhau, the new headquarters «is very important for all Altimetria activity, but there is another issue: with Altimetria here, we now have an association and people, daily, in Ribeirinho Park. It will add life to it and contribute to combating the insecurity that people feel at off hours. In addition, the open bar allows people to come here, buy some water and relax. It is an asset for the association's activity and for the space that is here. It will bring more people and that is very positive».
Nuno Guerreiro, in conversation with the Sul Informação, said he feels "proud" of the challenge launched by the mayor of helping to make the Ribeirinho Park a safer space, not least because "we want to be part of it."
«What we built, with the colors of the headquarters, was thinking of what already existed here. We want to live with the people who come here, bringing a space that provides comfort and security. The Parque Ribeirinho, at night, is abandoned and is easily vandalized. Everything will make it a safer space», he guaranteed.
The person in charge of Altimetria explained that interest in the installation at Parque Ribeirinho arose because the space «had all the conditions to teach kids to ride a bike. Furthermore, the people who frequent the area are connected to sport».
After getting the administrative green light, construction of the headquarters began about a year ago. «We had a condition that was not to build anything in brick. It would have to be either wood or other material that could be removed and we opted for shipping containers. No one had any idea what the final result would be and we managed to create a space with a gym, school support, changing rooms, bicycle shops and a bar, both for members and for people who frequent the Parque Ribeirinho», said Nuno Guerreiro.
The new headquarters cost around 30 thousand euros, but «not counting the labor, because it was made with “house silver”».
Altimetria Associação Desportiva ended last year with «50 athletes from 3 to 13 years old, but now classes have started and we are growing in the number of students».
In addition, Altimetria has «300 members, not counting the parents of students, who are also members, and new ones are always joining», in other words, many people to give more life to the Ribeirinho de Faro.
