A stamp issue celebrating 40 years of the Star Wars saga has just been launched this Friday, August 25th, by CTT. This is the first time that Portuguese stamps address the imagination of Hollywood.
These stamps represent some of the characters in this saga, which began in 1977. Namely: Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and Master Yoda.
“Star Wars tells stories of mythical and inspiring adventures in a galaxy far, far away. Creative excellence and innovation are the essence of Star Wars and helped transform the saga into a popular culture phenomenon, with a legion of multigenerational fans», consider CTT.
This issue of CTT's stamps comes as the movie premiere of the new movie “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is being prepared, in December 2017.
The stamps will be on sale at all CTT stores and also here, thus anticipating its presentation, which will take place on the 18th of September, at 11:00 am, at the CTT dos Restauradores store, in Lisbon.
The philatelic issue consists of two pieces with the same theme: one issue in a gummed version (traditional stamps) and a second issue in a self-adhesive stamp version. The first of these pieces is made up of six stamps and a philatelic block with three stamps: two stamps with a value of 50 cents, two stamps with a value of 80 cents, and two stamps with a value of 85 cents.
All of these have a circulation of 130 thousand copies each.
The block with three stamps has a value of 1,50 euros and a circulation of 60 thousand copies. The self-adhesive issue dedicated to the same theme has two stamps for national shipping up to 20 grams, two stamps for shipping in Europe, also up to 20 grams, and two stamps for the rest of the world up to 20 grams. All of these have a circulation of 30 copies each.
O design of the stamps was in charge of Francisco Galamba. The first-day obliterations will be carried out in Restauradores stores, in Lisbon, Município, Porto, Zarco, Funchal, and Antero de Quental, in Ponta Delgada.
CTT "believe that this issue will become part of the mystical collector associated with Star Wars".
