The new Ossónoba Family Health Unit, in Faro, has been in operation since the 21st of August and will serve 10.500 users in the county. This service will operate on the premises of the Health Center of Faro and it has a team of six doctors, six nurses and four technical assistants.
On Tuesday, August 29th, the Cowboys Health Extension was reopened, closed years ago, following a protocol signed between the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve and the Municipality of Alcoutim, which aimed to «return to the population of this locality access to healthcare in proximity to facilities with better functional conditions. and adequate to the service», according to the ARS.
Em Faro, the creation of a new USF will strengthen Primary Health Care in the Algarve capital. «With opening hours from 8:20 am to XNUMX:XNUMX pm, Monday to Friday, the USF intends to offer all its users a set of activities expressed in its action plan in the area of providing care and promoting health in the community, ensuring more accessibility , greater proximity, and greater quality of health care in the municipality of Faro and, at the same time, contribute to obtaining gains in health», framed the ARS do Algarve.
The creation of units like the one that opened days ago in Faro intends to address the problem of users without a family doctor. The operating model of the USF is based on health professionals from different areas who come together voluntarily to create a team, ensuring assistance to a larger number of users and greater quality of care.
At this time, and after the inauguration of the USF Ossónoba, there are 14 Family Health Units in the Algarve (two in the Barlavento Health Center Group (ACES), eight in ACES Central and four in ACES Sotavento) which, in total, « cover more than 145 thousand users”.
