The 3rd edition of the B Cultural Festival takes you to Bordeira, in the rural area of the municipality of Faro, this Friday and Saturday, August 11th and 12th, theater, workshops and the music of JP Simões and Anaquim.

In three years, the event grew and managed to broaden the range of artists. «This year, we have regional bands and three national projects, two music and one theater. We managed to take a very interesting leap towards our ideal of programming», reveals Mauro Amaral, from the event's organization, to the Musical/Sul Informação.

On the 11th and 12th, there are also three musical projects from the Algarve, free of charge, Orblua, Mauro Amaral and Galopim, as well as Maio Coopé, a Guinean musician, A Carripana (street theatre), stories told by Luís Carmelo. The nights close with the DJs Discossauro and Selecta Alice.

There will also be entertainment for children, traditional games and other activities that aim to attract new audiences. Located 13 kilometers from Faro, in the parish of Santa Bárbara de Nexe, the village of Bordeira is known for “taking out” its culture, namely through the activities of the Sociedade Recreativa Bordeirense, but it is not usual for people to go to see events in this place in the interior farense.

Since the creation of B Cultural, and other activities of Associação Valoriz'arte, reality has been changing. «We seek to bring modern programming to an area of traditional culture and to a different audience, much of which comes from abroad. Now, more and more, people are realizing that there is another kind of wealth, and space, to enjoy the cultural activities in the interior», says the Valoriz'arte programmer.

Like most festivals, B Cultural is based on music, but despite the limited budget and few volunteers, the organization intends to increase the areas of artistic intervention.

«Last year, we already had a new circus, this year we have a storyteller and a play, in a partnership between LAMA and Teatro de S. Luís, some recreational activities, workshops, live crafts and popular poetry, something which is at the roots of Bordeira, but we want to increase it. We know what we want, but there is still no organizational capacity for more», explains Mauro Amaral.

Logistics and resources lead the association to distribute some of the activities throughout the year and take this opportunity to show a little of Bordeira to those who are attracted by B Cultural.

Within the dynamics of programming that Valoriz'arte has idealized, there was the intention of bringing a little of the joy of Festival F, as an extension, to the “Faro rural".

«We suggested this to the vice-president of the Chamber, Paulo Santos, and he agreed to make this extension, to begin with, because we always have a more ambitious goal for the coming years and to help sustain the program», reveals the person in charge.

The result of the partnership is the presence of Anaquim, a group led by composer and lyricist José Rebola. It's the return to Faro by this band from Coimbra, already on their third album, “Um Dia Destes”, which debuted in the Algarve capital in 2010, after the release of their debut album.

Another of the national bands is Bloom, the new project by JP Simões (Pop Dell'Arte, Belle Chase Hotel, Quarteto Tati), which debuts in the Algarve on Saturday, the 12th.

In his suitcase, he brings the new “Tremble Like a Flower”, where the musician returns to sing in English, about a sound closer to folk and blues, world music and rock, which will be presented in a guitar and voice version.

As a recognized musician, his presence at the festival was achieved through the network of contacts already established by Valoriz'arte. «A neighbor of mine, here in Bordeira, is from Sintra and a friend of Selecta Alice and JP Simões and we got direct contact» .

Personal relationships make the difference in the event's program, above all, to guarantee the presence of the artists and to help in the negotiation of values. With Galopim, Orblua and Discossauro, there is a close relationship, Mauro Amaral is “from the house” and Maio Coopé met B Cultural last year as a member of the public, despite not having been able to resist picking up the guitar.

“It is noteworthy that all the artists present were incredibly available in terms of cache. Otherwise, with our budget, it was not possible to bring them», emphasizes Mauro Amaral.

The B Cultural takes place in the premises of Associação Valorizarte, at Rua José Ferreiro Pai, in Bordeira, it has free admission and opens at 18:00 pm, on August 11th, and at 16:00 pm, on Saturday, the 12th.
