The Eastern Algarve is one of the areas covered by the state of public calamity with preventive effects that will be declared by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Internal Administration, due to the aggravation of the risk of fire in the coming days, particularly at the weekend.

According to the prime minister's office, the risk of fire will still be very high and maximum "in the interior districts of the Center and North regions and in some municipalities in the District of Beja", in addition to the Eastern Algarve.

António Costa and Constança Urbano de Sousa will meet this Friday with the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, with the General Commander of the GNR, with the National Commander of Relief Operations and President of the Portuguese Firemen League, at official residence of the prime minister, «with a view to the maximum mobilization of resources and pre-positioning in the areas of greatest risk», adds António Costa's office.

The Government will also hear the mayors of the territories covered by the state of public calamity, "with a view to identifying other measures that should be adopted with a preventive character."
