The occupancy rate, per room, was 74% during the month of May in the Algarve, according to data released by the Associação da Hotelaria de Portugal (AHP). 

These numbers are 1,3% higher than in the same period in 2016. The occupancy rate, when compared by zone, was higher in the Algarve Center (75%), compared to Sotavento (70%) and Barlavento (74%) .

Even so, in Barlavento there was an increase of more than 3,2% compared to May 2016. The average price per occupied room was 8% more than in the same period of the previous year, and the RevPar (average price per available room) plus 10%, standing at 58 euros.

According to AHP Tourism Monitors, an exclusive tool for the collection of national Hospitality data, worked monthly by AHP – Associação da Hotelaria de Portugal, Maio «keeps the growth trend of the indicators of the national Hospitality industry, with the exception of the occupancy rate, which registered a slowdown».

The room occupancy rate rose by 1,9% compared to May 2016, reaching 80%. AHP highlights "the two-star units registered a growth of 4,1%, reflecting an occupancy rate of 84%".
