A group of inmates from the Prison Establishment of Olhão is painting, until 4 August, the Municipal Stadium in that city. The work focuses on the external painting of the equipment, with particular emphasis on sealing.

This activity is the result of a cooperation protocol between the Municipality of Olhão and the Directorate-General for Reinsertion and Prison Services, signed last February.

The collaboration between the two entities, which is part of the policy of social reinsertion and articulated management of the educational and prison tutelary systems of the Directorate-General for Reinsertion and Prison Services, is materialized, in practice, in the availability, on the part of the Municipality, in collaborate in the reintegration of citizens who are serving time in the Prison of Olhão.

In this perspective, "prisoners have the opportunity to perform tasks in the service of the municipality of Olhão, whether general maintenance, cleaning, exterior repairs, or other work considered necessary", explains the City Council of Olhão.

This is a model of cooperation that has already been tested in the past «with encouraging results». For example, the painting works in the Municipal Pavilion, which took place last year, were carried out by inmates of the Prison Establishment of Olhão, as well as a cleaning action on the Ilha da Armona, which took place at the end of May.
