The National Tracking of the Artistic Voice will arrive in the Algarve. On August 8th and 9th, the Family Health Unit Farol of Faro, will be open doors for artists (and not only), so that they can assess the state of their vocal apparatus, avoiding pathologies associated with its continued use.

This screening is aimed at artists, but open to the general population. The population will be able to register at the Health Center and artists will be able to do so also at the GDA – Artists' Rights Management, entity that manages the intellectual property rights of musicians, actors and dancers in Portugal, and which organizes this initiative .

Consultations run from 9:00 am to 18:00 pm. Anyone who wants to “risk” can show up without registering and, if there is a vacancy, will be attended to.

So far, several artists from the Algarve have already signed up, including Algarve-born musician Nuno Guerreiro, from Ala dos Namorados, who will make a musical note at the USF Farol at 11:00 am on the 8th, a Tuesday, and actor Pedro Lima, who has also secured a place to do voice screening.

«This national screening is a way to draw the attention of Portuguese singers and actors to the regular care they must have with their vocal apparatus: the permanent demand to which the professional voice is subject develops some pathologies that, if not detected early, and corrected, they compromise the quality of artistic performance in the long term”, explained Clara Capucho, the otolaryngologist responsible for the GDA screening.

«In addition to singers and actors, it is crucial for the vocal health of Portuguese people that all people regularly have their vocal cords checked. This is what allows the early diagnosis of various diseases, including laryngeal cancer. There are many voice professionals such as teachers, journalists, lawyers, politicians or priests, among many others, who have every interest in checking the health of their vocal system,” he added.

The National Tracking of Artistic Voice is the result of a GDA initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Western Lisbon Hospital Centre, «whose Voice Unit at the Egas Moniz Hospital has distinguished itself as the main point of the National Health Service where they are provided. differentiated health care in the area of voice to Portuguese artists», according to the Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS).

This screening was announced on April 16, World Voice Day, at the D. Maria II National Theater and «will be done at least once a year in all districts and autonomous regions, thus ensuring the possibility of doing the early diagnosis of various diseases typical of voice professionals'.

«There will be many hundreds of exams in cities and regions where, until now, the artists residing there did not have access to them», concluded the ARS do Algarve.
