Work has already begun on the Largo de Tributo a Paco de Lucía, in Monte Francisco

The rehabilitation works of Largo Manuel Gomes – Tribute to Paco de Lucía, in Monte Francisco (Castro Marim), have already started. 

This place is «a tribute to the eternal genius of the guitar and to the memory of his mother Luzia Gomes, a native of this town from Castro Marim», explains the Chamber of Castro Marim.

The requalification, which represents an investment of 325 thousand euros, also includes the paving of the surrounding streets (eastern zone).

Largo Manuel Gomes – Tribute to Paco de Lucía «born from the desire to expand and promote the bond of the “absolute master of flamenco” to Castro Marim, more specifically to Monte Francisco, where his mother lived, whose joy and Portuguese countenance always the proud and inspired».

Her connection to her maternal roots is perpetuated in the artistic name of Francisco Gustavo Sánchez Gomes – Paco de Lucía – and in the albums “Castro Marín” (1981) and “Luzia” (1998).

This is "an intervention that proves to be indispensable in improving mobility conditions in Monte Francisco" as it is "an old yearning of this population, which has been waiting for many years for the work", considers that municipality.

At the same time, there is a tender for the paving of the streets in the western part of the town, a project valued at around 100 euros.

According to the Chamber of Castro Marim, "improving the streets of the towns in the municipality has been one of the main concerns of this executive, who promoted the execution of dozens of projects, and the works are now advancing".

«The interventions on the access road to Praia Verde, Urbanization of Quinta do Sobral, in Castro Marim (Dr. Alves Moreira and 25 de Abril streets) and Junqueira have already been completed, and works are planned for soon in Odeleite, Azinhal, Altura, Rua da Arrancada and Casa Alta».

The requalification of Largo Manuel Gomes – Tribute to Paco de Lucía is a project framed in the Action Plan for the Development of Endogenous Resources (PADRE), approved under the CRESC ALGARVE 2020, to be co-financed at 70% by the FEDER.
