Improvement works in six houses in the Bairro Social, or the painting of municipal houses in the same neighborhood, are some of the works being carried out by the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.

In addition to this, windows in the Bairro Social are also being replaced. «In addition to the continuous work being carried out by the services of the Municipal Council in the regular maintenance of the 50 social housing units in the municipality, the Municipality is carrying out major works, in a fundamental investment to expand and renovate the housing stock, at the service of community», says the City Council of São Brás.

“Giving more and better answers to the population's needs is a permanent concern of the municipality, which has been making efforts to expand its social housing stock,” he adds.

In this sense, the municipality recently signed a collaboration protocol with Santa Casa da Misericórdia of São Brás de Alportel.

This is “an agreement that allows the municipality to create new social housing units through the adaptation of vacant properties in the Santa Casa. Since the formalization of the agreement, the first lending contract has already been established, which has as its object the transfer of a house, whose adaptation work is already underway, as part of this set of investments».

Under a partnership with the Parish Council, the municipality also supports the carrying out of improvement works in the Graça a Deus neighborhood, owned by the Parish Council.

And in addition to all this work, «the City Council continues to develop the “Mão Amiga” program that supports families who do not live in social housing, but who need help to carry out those essential works to ensure the dignity and comfort of the home of those who have the least».

At the moment, more work is being completed under the “Mão Amiga” Program and other interventions are in progress, with an annual budget of around 50 euros.

According to the City Council of São Brás, “the municipality's housing policies are not limited to the rehabilitation of buildings, and above all seek full social inclusion”.

«With this objective, the João Rosa Beatriz Multi-Use Space was built, which complements the Sports Space already existing in the place and allows the realization of a wide range of activities and the social, proximity follow-up of this entire housing complex».

The “Bem Me Quer” community intervention project, which is based in this space, is responsible for a program of diversified activities, involving residents and other participants, in a “very healthy interaction that has allowed to give a whole new dynamic to the neighborhood, every time more attractive and happier».

The space also hosts leisure time activities for young people, “essential for their healthy and harmonious development”.
