Bruno Santos took office as 2nd commander of the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão last Friday, June 30th.
The new 2nd commander reaches the second highest position in the hierarchy of Firefighters from Olhão after a public contest that culminated in the dispatch of 20 June. Aged 35, he has been a professional firefighter since 2002, with a degree in Sociology and a Master's Degree in Human Resources.
António Pina, Mayor, at the inauguration ceremony, welcomed the new member of the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão, who will serve a first five-year service commission, renewable.
The mayor revealed that this was one of the needs of the firefighters from Olhão that this executive was able to solve, but there are others.
"The new barracks project is underway, an old promise that will be a reality in 2018", he said, also recalling that the municipality has been "always available to provide the corporation with all the necessary material".
The mayor from Olho also revealed that a competition will soon be opened for 15 2nd class firefighters and that he continues to insist that «career progressions be implemented and remunerations reviewed»: a «legitimate» right.
Luís Gomes, commander of the Municipal Fire Department of Olhão, confirmed "the executive's opening to all the needs felt by peacekeepers from Olhão", according to that City Council.
This person in charge guaranteed that he has «always an answer to the requests made». As for what the Chamber of Olhão considers to be the «injustices that the firefighters are being subjected to», Luís Gomes promised to continue to express, at the national level, his «disillusionment for the lack of approval of a professional statute with the dignity that firefighters deserve it».
"I will not give up until this tremendous injustice is redressed," he added.
To 2nd commander Bruno Santos, Luís Gomes assured: «you will be the man of our confidence and together we will do everything so that your success is our success. The challenge is huge: expectations are extremely high. I know that you will certainly contribute even more so that the name of this Corps [with 130 elements] is recognized and recognized».
Regarding what has already been achieved for this fire brigade, Luís Gomes reinforces: «We have a set of ongoing projects that will further elevate the grandeur of this institution and the aid in Olhão».
