The beginning of the procedure for the elaboration of the Rustic Space Intervention Plan for Pego Fundo beach (PIERPFA), in Alcoutim, which wants to create a camping and caravan park to promote tourism in that area, has already been approved at a Chamber meeting.

In addition to this, the creation of a space dedicated to sport and recreation is also planned, north of the river beach of Alcoutim.

«The success of the Alcoutim river beach in recent years and tourism linked to the nature activities that have been developed in the northeast of the Algarve will be reinforced with new accommodation areas – integrated in tourist developments – in the caravan and camping typologies, which will be plans to install in PIERPFA», explains the Alcoutim Chamber.

Within a maximum period of 18 months, the PIERFPFA proposal will be drawn up, which foresees the enhancement of the natural and touristic aspects of the area, the landscape framing of the Pego Fundo area and the infrastructure of the space.

The area, fully municipal property, corresponds to about 7,38 hectares and is about half a kilometer from the Guadiana River, «with excellent views over the Ribeira, Alcoutim and the entire surrounding landscape», says that municipality.

The area is delimited to the north by the Municipal road 507, to the south by the Pego do Fundo River Beach and to the east by the Alcoutim EBI, ending in Ribeira de Cadavais.

PIERPFA will also be subject to an environmental assessment procedure and will amend the Municipal Master Plan (PDM) in its area of intervention, either due to the National Ecological Reserve (REN) or in terms of the National Agricultural Reserve (RAN), introducing a new discipline of land occupation, use and transformation for the area in question.
