As his «Latin personality», Salvador Sobral and his three accomplices of «Alma Nuestra» (Victor Zamora, on piano, André Rosinha, on double bass, and André Sousa Machado, on drums) gave a fantastic concert on the opening of the Lagoa Jazz Festival, from 23 to 25 June, in the open-air amphitheater of Sítio das Fontes de Estômbar.

Before, the duo made up of the Italians Pasquale Stafano, on piano, and Gianni Iorio, on bandoneon, had warmed up the audience, who rewarded his performance with lots of applause. Faced with the warm reception of around 400 spectators who completely sold out the venue on the first night of Lagoa Jazz, in the end the transalpine musicians made a point of taking a Selfie with the audience.

But it would be the performance of the «Alma Nuestra» that would delight the audience. In fact, most of the people who completely filled the amphitheater of Fontes were there to listen to Salvador Sobral.

And he emerged invested with his Latin character, he only spoke Spanish – to the irritation of some, few people – and sang, in jazz arrangements, well-known Latin songs, especially from Cuba and Argentina. Showing that he was the master of a portentous voice, capable of all the registers, Salvador played with the public and even with those who, in a somewhat rude manner, wanted him to speak Portuguese…or, who knows, to sing the winning song at the Eurofestival… that he didn't sing, of course.

But Salvador always kept his character, between the Latin and jazz singer, registering a multifaceted performance and much applause, very well accompanied by the other members of «Alma Nuestra», Victor Zamora, André Rosinha and André Sousa Machado.

At the end of the show, after half past midnight, there was even more music in the space lounge next to the boiler of the mill of Fontes. Before, those who went earlier could drink and eat in the various places of street food.

The Lagoa Jazz Fest continues today and tomorrow. For this Saturday, the 24th, a concert by “Marius Preda 4teto” is booked, starting at 22 pm. According to the organization, Marius “developed a new way of playing the dulcimer» and the result was to become the first instrumentalist of dulcimer of jazz history.

On the last day, June 25, “Kolme” and “Alberto López 22teto” will perform, starting at 00 pm. «Kolme is a new perspective of the piano trio in jazz, with influences received from various musical areas due to the multi-faceted path of the three musicians», says the organizers of the Lagoa de Jazz Festival.

As for “Alberto López 5teto”, as a soloist guitarist, “he had the opportunity to participate in major flamenco events such as “La Bienal de Sevilla” and “La Noche Blanca del Flamenco”, alongside prestigious names, “El Pele” , “Estrella Morente”, “Arcángel”, “Tomatito” and “Israel Galván”».

In addition to music, there is also, during the festival, an exhibition of thematic painting, with jazz as the theme, authored by – Francisco Fernandes.
