Since yesterday, June 1st, the Algarve has three more emergency ambulances and an emergency motorcycle. The reinforcement of the resources of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM, which remains until September 30th, aims to increase “the capacity to respond to situations of accident or sudden illness in a region that sees its population grow considerably in the summer », according to the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve.
The medical emergency resources that have now arrived join the 37 who are permanently in the region (see list below). The motorcycle will be parked in Portimão. INEM's ambulances will be placed in the premises of the Portuguese Red Cross in Armação de Pera, Altura and Albufeira.
The decision to reinforce emergency resources in the Algarve, «is based on a detailed analysis of events in this region». "As the available data demonstrate, the increase in population during the summer period does not have a proportional increase in the number of requests to INEM, but justifies the need to carry out regional adjustments to improve response capacity," according to the Algarve's ARS.
«In the same scope, ARS Algarve, in close coordination with the Ministry of Health, is finalizing the Summer Plan to strengthen the provision of proximity healthcare in the Region, namely more technical and human resources, with a view to expansion of service in municipalities where there is usually a greater influx of tourists, as well as the availability of health posts on the beach, among other measures, which will be announced shortly», added the entity responsible for managing the NHS in the Algarve.
