The initiative “Touch me to get to know me better”, with replicas of archeological objects aimed at children, or the activity “Bingo no Museu”, where the youngest will also be challenged for a “very special game”, are some of the proposals for the celebration of the International Day of Museums tomorrow, May 18th, at the Municipal Museum of Archeology of Silves.

For this bingo, the idea is that the numbers are replaced by objects from the Museum, which the player must also know how to identify.

And the truth is that tomorrow there will be free admission and guided visits to that museum and its Almohad cistern well, which will be complemented with activities.

O peddy paper “Discovering Details of History” takes place at 10:00 am through the city's historic center and invites seniors to test their knowledge of the city's history through a series of tests that combine knowledge, cunning, acumen and physical dexterity.

Also in the morning, children and young people can participate in a playful-pedagogical activity of interaction with a potter from Silves from the XNUMXth century, called “A day as a potter at the mouraria”. Participation in this action is subject to prior registration.

In Messines, the Museum of Costume and Traditions will also have special activities on this occasion, with guided visits from 10:00 am to 16:00 pm. In the morning, the youngest will be invited to dress the characters from the local history, using patterns with which they will create costumes, in cardboard or fabric.

This activity requires prior registration and runs from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. In the afternoon, at 15 pm, the senior public will be able to share their memories through photos or objects from other times and sharing the memories they bring to them. This sharing will be recorded in video and photo, for later recall.

The commemorations will end with the activity “Museums Night” which will bring on May 20, at 21 pm, to the Archeology Museum the recital “Guitars and Heritage”, by the Academy of Music of Lagos (an activity included in the program 365 Algarve).

Paulo Galvão, from the Academy of Music of Lagos, will interpret Francisco Tárrega and Heitor Villa-Lobos, in a concert that will have the Almohad cistern well of the Archeology Museum as a backdrop.

At the Museu do Traje e das Tradições there will be a screening of “The Algarve Interior in Image”, through the exhibition of nine small films that show the activities of the interior of the Algarve, very diverse, already extinct or in danger of extinction.

International Museum Day was created by the ICOM (International Council of Museums) about 40 years ago, with the aim of raising public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society.

In order to give a universal meaning to the commemorations, every year ICOM adopts a theme common to all countries, this year's theme being “Museums and contested stories: Saying the unspeakable in museums”, intending to address the role of museums as vehicle of the most controversial stories.

Telephone 282 440 838 or e-mail [email protected] are the contacts of the Municipal Museum of Archeology of Silves for registration and provision of additional information about these initiatives.
