There were more than 12 hours without running water in the upper part of the city of Faro. This Saturday, there were businesses that did not open doors and residents who had to stock up on fire trucks in the Algarve's capital. The situation, which was caused by an "accident" in a connection project for the new pipeline on the S. Luís road, provoked indignation among the residents and they expressed it on social networks.

It was 18:40 pm, when the Chamber of Faro, through Facebook, provided clarification on the reasons why water in taps was lacking in much of the city.

Nesse post, the municipality explained that “the connection of the new pipeline on the S. Luís road to one of the main water supply pipelines in the city was planned. For this reason, it was expected that there would be disturbances in the water supply during the day, according to the do timely announced on its website in recent days».

However, the Chamber continues, “we were informed this afternoon by the contractor of the occurrence of an accident on site, which resulted in relevant damage from a pipeline not yet located. Due to this accident, the upper part of the city is temporarily without a water supply».

Faced with the problem, «means were made available (Fire Brigade Sapadores de Faro and Fagar) for the placement of deposits in the affected neighborhoods. It is likely that also in the lower zone there may be some instability in this supply”.

Hours later, at around 21 pm, the mayor, Rogério Bacalhau, on Facebook, explained that “the lack of water that is affecting us all is due to an accident during a construction project. An unfortunate accident, but impossible to predict».

The mayor also asked "the most heartfelt apologies for all the inconveniences".

In statements to the Sul Informação, Rogério Bacalhau explained that the rupture occurred in a «conduct to supply the reservoirs, which forced us to mobilize all means, we had about 50 men working to solve the problem, which allowed us to resolve the issue in a few hours».

According to the mayor, “normalcy was restored last night. The problem was solved and, even, the location of the break was immediately paved».

Despite not being aware of “any particular case”, Rogério Bacalhau admits that the situation may affect some businesses.
