The Hotel Guadiana, which will be the first 5-star hotel in Vila Real de Santo António after being renovated, will reopen to the public «before the end of summer», assured this Monday, the mayor of Vila Real de Santo António, Luís Gomes.

The mayor made the announcement during the protocol signing ceremony for the installation of a Pousada de Portugal in the historic center of the city, which should be inaugurated by the Pestana hotel group within a year.

According to what was revealed during this session, the works currently underway on the Hotel Guadiana building, under the responsibility of the VRSA Council, should be completed in July, with the hotel's reopening scheduled for August or September. Once the works are completed, the international hotel group Grand Africa, which has already guaranteed the concession of this space, will adapt the hotel to its image and equip it, therefore, the reopening will not be immediate.

What seems certain is that VRSA will have its first 5-star hotel in 2017, as it was announced about a year ago, a day after the intervention in the centenary Hotel Guadiana began. At the time, a general cleaning was carried out on the building, which had been abandoned for some years, with the work itself having started later. The contract, according to the Chamber of VRSA, is "running within the stipulated deadlines".

In May 2016, Luís Gomes did not commit to a date for the opening, but he did not hide his desire to see the hotel operating «in the summer of 2017». Everything indicates that this will eventually happen, although, at the limit, this decision will be in the hands of the Grand Africa group.
