The Municipality of Olhão signed a collaboration protocol with the Dr. Francisco Fernandes Lopes School Group, in the amount of five thousand euros, so that students can continue with the activities of the Programming and Robotics Club.

The Programming and Robotics Club (Robótica XL) was created in the 2015/2016 school year, and «aimed at promoting school success and stimulating curiosity and interest in the areas of science and technology among students from the 1st cycle of Basic Education», explains the Chamber.

At the signing of the protocol, which was signed last week, the mayor, António Miguel Pina, referred that «education is a fundamental pillar of a fairer society» and that he believes the support of the Chamber enhances «equal opportunities and the educational success of children and young people in the municipality».

The municipality emphasizes that in previous academic years it had «provided financial support for specific initiatives promoted by this group, within the framework of the development of its educational project, in particular in the practical application of knowledge in the area of science and technology».

According to the Chamber, "at the end of the school year, it was found that the interest of students in participating in the club's activities had spread to students from the 3rd cycle, professional courses and scientific-humanistic courses."

For the group's director, Idalécio Nicolau, “this support from the chamber is very important. Otherwise, we would have difficulty in being able to offer good working conditions to our students. It is very welcome support and we are all grateful for the collaboration of the municipality».
