In total, 2017 bands from 55 different nationalities will be at MED 21, comprising more than 250 musicians. They are the ones who will ensure the entertainment on the nine stages distributed throughout the festival's grounds and provide over 75 hours of music (see lineup of bands and stages below).

The complete poster for the 14th edition of MED was presented on Saturday, during a ceremony that featured the performance of the Maltese band Tribali that took place at the Cine-Teatro Louletano. If the tradition continues, the band that traveled from Malta and brought to Loulé a fusion of different styles (World music with dance, rock, reggae, ska and blues) will return next year, as, as had happened with Selma Uamusse and it happens now with Tété alinho, the protagonist of the concert for the official presentation of the 2016 poster.

Yaite Ramos Rodriguez, with the artistic name of La Dame Blanche, is the daughter of Jesus “Aguaje” Ramos, “an exceptional trumpeter and artistic director of the Orquestra Buena Vista Social Club”, according to the Câmara de Loulé.

“From Cuba he brought a rich heritage of warm and dancing melodies and rhythms, and in Europe he has joined hip-hop, dancehall or reggae. Influenced by Latin American rhythms, the singer prefers to follow a more electronic path, joining hip hop and reggae to cumbia in “2”, her latest release», described the local authority, which organizes the event.

Che Sudaka

Che Sudaka arrive from Spain, where "there is a huge wave of ska bands", among which the band with elements from the neighboring country, but also from Colombia and Srgentina, occupies "the front line". «Formed in Barcelona, the group is celebrating fifteen years of existence in 2017 and the tour that is now at MED de Loulé celebrates the date with an explosion of musical diversity where ska, punk and cumbia are the main flavors», according to the Chamber of Loulé.

Lura, another of the names revealed on Saturday, returns to MED, after having been there in 2009. The Cape Verdean artist recorded the album “Herança” in 2015, a «vibrant work, tremendously danceable and purely Cape Verdean», which «focuses the real energy of the archipelago, the rhythm and rhythm of funaná and portrays the intensity of Cape Verde, its people, traditions and its music in the most melodious and charismatic voice of a whole generation».

Also back in Loulé, but making her MED debut, will be Tété Alhinho. The Cape Verdean singer has whetted her appetite for the 2016 edition of the festival and will now take to one of the stages.
«Author and composer of more than 50 songs, many of them authentic classics in the Cape Verdean songbook, her CD “Voz” is a record with only guitar and voice and was considered by Songlines, English publisher of World Music, as one of the 10 Best Records of 2004. In Loulé, he will present “Mornas ao Piano”, a project that the singer has dreamed of for many years, a work that celebrates the simplicity and magnificence of her compositions, which also feature original themes signed by names such as Mário Lúcio Sousa ou Bleza», announced the Chamber.

Daniel Kemish, an American folk-style singer/songwriter, will be at home. Because, despite being born in the UK, the artist grew up in the Algarve, from where he left for the world, to show his music. This year alone, «he performed more than 150 concerts and covered more than 75.000 km promoting his debut album “Fools and Money”, which was recorded in Studio A of the famous “Ocean Way Nashville”». «Alive, Daniel is “raw” and energetic, seamlessly transitioning between rock and roll and intimate and delicate music, whether with a band or solo», according to the Loulé local authority.

Vítor Aleixo, Mayor of Loulé, took advantage of the presentation session of the 14th edition of MED to remember that this festival won the award for “Best Medium Dimension Festival”, last March, in Barcelona, during the Iberian Festival Awards . «It is the recognition that Loulé, in this context of promoting World Music festivals, is positioned in such a way that it is able to compete with the most important cities of the Iberian Peninsula», stressed the mayor of Loulé.

“This year we were particularly careful in choosing the artists so that this is, if not the biggest, one of the biggest editions of these 13 years”, he added.

Since the MED Festival started, 450 bands have already played there representing 41 countries, including Mali, Finland, the United States, Cuba, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Israel, Angola, Mozambique and, of course, Portugal, among others. Buena Vista Social Club, George Clinton, Balkan Beat Box, Cumbia All Stars, Goran Bregovic, Shantel Solommon Burk, Amadou&Mariam, Rokia Traoré, Kimmo Pojonnen, Tinariwen, Carminho, Gisela João, Camané or Batida were some of the figures on the international scene at the World Music that have already been part of the poster of this event.
