Castro Marim City Council launched last Thursday, May 11th, the public tender for the construction of water supply infrastructure to 12 villages in that municipality.

In this first phase, which has an estimated cost of 2 million euros, the villages of Portela Alta de Cima, Portela Alta de Baixo, Murteira de Cima, Murteira de Baixo, Sentinela, Eira Grande, Piçarral, Quebradas, Choça Queimada, House will be supplied White, Bushy and Owls.

In total, this water supply and distribution project covers 28 villages in Castro Marim, with funding from the Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources (PO SEUR).

The execution of the entire project, valued at 4 million euros, allows the supply of water, "in quantity and quality", according to the Chamber, to the populations of rural parishes not yet served.

The intervention also allows «the articulation between the high and the low side, configuring the municipal infrastructure in order to allow an effective connection to the Algarve's Multi-municipal Water Supply Systems», he adds.

The project was nominated for PO SEUR to the maximum amount possible under the notice for water supply, the sanitation component being ineligible.

This is, according to the municipality, «an investment that can be articulated with the interventions carried out» and that «allows the supply of water to Alta Mora, the western border of the municipality of Castro Marim, in other words, an adduction channel with about 54 kilometers of pipelines'.

«The approval of the financing represented a great achievement for this municipal executive, who had the water supply to the entire municipality defined as a priority since the beginning of his term. The execution of the entirety of this contract, divided into two phases, will serve about 50% of people still without a home water supply», he adds.

«In addition to developing and improving the living conditions of the resident population, the completion of this project also represents an undisputed enhancement of the interior of the municipality of Castro Marim, working as an attractive factor for new residents and as a lever for the local economy, particularly in the sector of tourism', he concludes.
