The Municipality of Alcoutim is going to make a protocol with the Grupo Desportivo de Alcoutim (GDA), so that it guarantees "permanent surveillance, support, awareness and assistance to bathers" on the river beach of Pego Fundo, located in that village in the Northeast of Algarve.

To this end, the municipality approved today, at a meeting of the executive, the signing of this protocol with the GDA, stressing that «the safety of bathers, which has been increasing year by year, is a concern of the Municipality».

The decision to invest in GDA collaboration is linked to the fact that the institution has "trained human resources that enable them to ensure the quality of the service provided".

Under the terms of the approved agreement, the municipality will transfer to the GDA a financial contribution of just over 8 thousand euros.

The Municipality of Alcoutim emphasizes that «the safety and surveillance of the beach, particularly in the case of people with reduced mobility and children, are fundamental for a quality bathing tourist offer, and depend essentially on well-prepared human resources to face the challenges that are placed in it'.

However, he recalls, "safety depends in the first place on each one of the bathers who must observe the information and signs on the beach and always follow the instructions of the lifeguards".

The bathing season on the river beach of Pego Fundo, in Alcoutim, officially started on the 13th of May and will run until the 24th of September.

The beach was once again distinguished with the “Accessible Beach, Beach for Everyone” flag, which is awarded to bathing, maritime and river areas that meet the necessary requirements in terms of accessibility and restricted mobility. The flag will be hoisted during the first half of June.
