The celebrations of the Southern Regional Engineering Day will bring together 400 professionals of this class in Albufeira, from today, Friday, May 12th and until Sunday, May 14th.

These celebrations combine institutional events with cultural, recreational and sporting initiatives. It is also the time to make known the winners of the Young Engineer Innovation Award 2016 (PIJE2016) and to honor more experienced engineers.

The highlight of the celebrations will be a solemn session, which will take place tomorrow, the 13th of May, in the Auditorium of the Municipality of Albufeira. A moment that will be used to honor the first Portuguese engineer, Maria Amélia Chaves, who has Algarve ancestry, “in this way, it is a region to which she had strong family and emotional connections”, according to the Ordem dos Engenheiros. Senior Member Diplomas and Diplomas for 25 years of membership in the Order will also be given.

At the same session, the winners of the Young Engineer Innovation Award 2016 (PIJE2016) will be announced, «an initiative of the Southern Region of the Ordem dos Engenheiros, but addressed to all members of this Professional Association, trainees or permanent, registered in any region and whose date of birth is on or after 1 January 1981'.

PIJE aims to «contribute to the elaboration and dissemination of innovative work in the various branches of Engineering, rewarding its innovative character and practical applicability».

The closing of this ceremony will be attended by Carlos Mineiro Aires, President of the Ordem dos Engenheiros.
