The Algarve will be connected to Sweden, during the winter, through a route operated by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). The call Faro – Estcolmo assumes «strategic importance for the region's tourism, namely for the promotion of the golf product», says the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA).

According to the organisation, «after four years of negotiation, Turismo de Portugal and Associação Turismo do Algarve, the agency responsible for the external promotion of the destination, managed to capture» this route, which will have a regularity of two flights per week (on Saturdays and on Wednesdays).

«This is an important achievement for tourism in the Algarve, namely with regard to the dynamization of the golf product, one of the most appreciated products on the Swedish market», explains Dora Coelho, executive director of ATA.

«Given that the peak season for golfing in the region takes place during the winter, the lack of air connections to Scandinavia was a limitation for our destination and for the work of tour operators specializing in the golf product, which has long been they asked us to create this route», he adds.

According to the official, «the new connection will thus fill a gap that exists in this market and will certainly bring a new dynamic to the tourist performance of the Algarve».

Tickets for this new route will be available for sale as from this month of April.
