The second edition of Trail del Guadiana will take place on March 26, with two routes of 25 and 14 kilometers, between Castelo da Vila, in Alcoutim, and San Marcos Castle, in Sanlúcar de Guadiana, on the other side of the river .
The organization's invitation is to "run through Portuguese lands, in a race that ends in Spain, with a river in the middle". «Whatever event you choose», the participant will «enjoy the magnificent landscapes that this territory offers, along the great southern river, smuggling paths and trails where the guards controlled that activity, seen from Spain from Portugal, with the unique opportunity to make the cross-border crossing on a pedestrian bridge».
The initiative is from CD Atletismo Corrales, together with the Municipality of Alcoutim, the Ayuntamiento Sanlúcar de Guadiana and the Circuito Trail Algarve 2017.
The race starts in Portuguese lands, at 9:00 am in Portugal. Trail participants will cross the temporary “pedestrian bridge”, after 21 kilometers of running through Portuguese lands, to finish the race in Sanlúcar de Guadiana.
The test takes place on the same date as the Smuggling Festival, which takes place in the two neighboring villages, and which includes a period market, local cuisine, ethnographic parades, street theater, street music bands, craft workshops and much more entertainment
One of the main attractions of the Festival is an old dream of the two villages, the Alcoutim/Sanlúcar de Guadiana Cross-border Bridge, offering, for the 24th, 25th and 26th of March, the crossing of the river that will unite Alcoutim and Sanlúcar.
Both events include fuel, insurance and lunch in Sanlúcar de Guadiana, for all athletes.
