Very cloudy skies, with open in the afternoon, is the forecast of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) for this Friday, March 3rd.

According to Meteophons website, the frontal surface that is affecting the territory will now shift to the east, reaching the remaining parts of the continent.

After its passage, there will be a regime of showers during the rest of the morning and afternoon, which may occasionally be strong and accompanied by thunder and hail, mainly in the North and Center of the country, being more sporadic here in the South.

In the interior North and Center regions, still according to Meteophons, it is expected to snow above 600/800 meters (there is a Yellow Warning in effect), and there may be significant accumulations in some places. One of the southernmost places where it can snow is in the S. Mamede mountain range (Portalegre).

The wind blows moderate to strong from the south, with gusts up to 80km/h in the highlands (Yellow Notice in force).

At sea, there is swell from the southwest, increasing to 2,5 meters on the south coast, and from the northwest, increasing to 4 to 5 meters on the west coast (Yellow Notice in force).

Temperatures will drop, especially during this afternoon and Saturday night.

For tomorrow, Saturday, March 4th, and according to the attached animation (click on the image above to see the animation), a new worsening is expected during the night, with a new low-pressure nucleus placed next to the Center of the Continente and bringing with it periods of rain that are sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunder and strong wind, with special emphasis on the area located between Greater Lisbon, Setúbal, Ourique, Beja and Évora (according to the model above), and rain is also expected here to the Algarve (moderate to strong), and weaker in the North.

"Depending on the exact position of the depression, the area mentioned above may undergo some minor adjustments", adds the Meteophons.

There will also be snowfall above 800 meters in the northern and central areas of the interior.

From the beginning of Saturday afternoon, the situation should improve significantly, with less rain and cloud cover, especially here in the South.

Sunday will be a day with some cloudiness and light rain all over the Continent, interspersed with good openings to the south.

Taking into account the weather forecast, it is suggested that the necessary precautions be taken in order to safeguard people and goods, and the monitoring of warnings and communications from official entities is suggested.
