The Municipal Museum of Loulé has already been officially accepted in the Portuguese Museum Network (RPM). The news was announced this Friday by Júlio de Sousa, director of the Department of Education and Sociocultural Development of the Câmara de Loulé, during the opening session of the first Conferences of the Algarve Museum Network.

The Loulé Museum application had received the approval of the Section of Museums, Conservation and Restoration and Intangible Heritage of the National Council of Culture, at its meeting on 8 February, but only this Thursday, 16 March, after approval by the Minister of Culture, the official letter confirming the decision reached the Loulé autarchy.

Luís Raposo, former director of the National Museum of Archeology and current president of ICOM Europa, guest of the Jornadas, congratulated the inclusion of the Loulé Museum in RPM, stressing that it is a «chance of quality».

In statements to the Sul Informação, Júlio de Sousa said that this «recognition is extremely important for the Museum of Loulé», being also a «certification of the quality of the work of the team» that prepared the application and now manages and gives life to the museum.

Ana Rosa Sousa, director of the Museum of Loulé, told our newspaper that the integration into RPM is the culmination of “a process that started more than a year ago” and that forced a profound reorganization of the work of the Loulé museum structure.

The candidacy, explained Ana Rosa Sousa, forced to guarantee «the reinforcement of the Museum team», with the hiring of a conservation and restoration technician, the «renovation of the exhibition synthesis of the headquarters nucleus with new framework texts», in Portuguese and English, the "computerization of the ticket office", "the computerization and inventory of the collection", the "reorganization of the reservation, the preparation of mandatory documents for accreditation", as well as the "promotion of educational activities and accessibility".

According to the Câmara de Loulé, the integration “will allow the application for national and community funds destined exclusively for museums accredited in the Portuguese Museum Network, as well as receiving qualified technical support from the heritage protection, as well as qualifying the museum's technical team, through of carrying out specialized training actions'.

This is the fifth museum in the Algarve to be part of the Portuguese Museum Network, after those in Portimão, Faro, Tavira and Albufeira.

The Municipal Museum of Loulé, whose main nucleus is located in the Alcaidaria do Castelo building, in the historic center of the city, received 142 visitors last year.

The first Conferences of the Algarve Museums Network took place throughout the entire day of Friday, in the former Convento do Espírito Santo, in Loulé, with the generic theme “Museums without Reservations?”.
