A 37-year-old woman died this Friday in an accident at work at the future IKEA store in Loulé. Source of the District Relief Operations Command told the Sul Informação that the alert was given at 12:11.

Second the Jornal de Notícias, which quotes a GNR source, the victim was a cleaning worker and “it was an accidental death”.

The newspaper adds that "during a smoking break, in an area where pallets were piled up, another employee, presumably with a forklift, crashed into the pallets, which then fell on top of the victim."

In a statement, quoted by Correio da Manhã, IKEA Portugal says that the woman was an employee "of a company outside IKEA, hired by one of the project's suppliers", according to that newspaper, that the accident happened "outside the unloading dock".

IKEA Portugal also says that there will be further clarification, "as soon as there is more information".

Media from INEM, GNR and Firefighters of Loulé were called to the scene. O Sul Informação found that the Authority for Conditions at Work (ACT) is in place.

The IKEA store is scheduled to open next week, on March 30th.
