Ponta da Piedade will host an interpretation center that will make known the natural riches of this place in the municipality of Lagos, while paying homage to "one of its most loved ones", Sophia de Mello Breyner, who will name the infrastructure that will be created.

The Câmara de Lagos intends to complete the Ponta da Piedade requalification process and has already submitted an application for European Union Funds, which includes the "Project for the Requalification of Ponta da Piedade – 2nd Phase", the physical execution of this contract, the implementation of a visitor counting system and promotion actions. Doing all this will cost almost 2,5 million euros, with the European Union's contribution reaching 60 percent.

One of the central points of the project is the creation of the «Sophia de Mello Breyner» Interpretation Center, which will serve to «help the resident, tourist and school community to better understand the natural environment of this area, either through guided tours, accompanied by technicians specialized or just from brochures», framed the Câmara de Lagos.

«The Municipality of Lagos fits the requalification of Ponta da Piedade into a strategy for the management and promotion of nature tourism as a diversifying and complementary pole of the tourist offer, attracting a greater number of visitors, especially in the low season, contributing to mitigate the effects of seasonality and provide more stability to the economy and employment», concluded the municipality.
