The Câmara de Lagoa will plant, over the next week, between 20 and 24 March, 320 native trees, as part of the activity “Plant your tree”, part of the “Semana Verde – Green Week” project.

In the week when Spring starts (20th) and celebrates the World Days of the Tree (21), Water (22), Meteorology (23) and Student (24), the Lagoon municipality intends to «on the one hand, encourage the participation of the entire population and, on the other hand, value green spaces, nature, biodiversity and air quality within the scope of the application for the “Common Forest” Project».

The Council of Lagoa explains that, following the approval of the application for the “Common Forest” Project by ICNF (Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests) and Quercus, for the 2016/17 reforestation season, it was awarded to the Municipality of Lagoa the planting of carob trees (Ceratonia siliqua), cypresses, (Cupressus sempervirens), ash (Fraxinus angustifolia), umbrella pines (Pinea pine), strawberry trees (Arbutus unedo), cataperians (Bourgaean Pyrus), executioners (Quercus coccifera), cork oaks (Quercus suber) and close (alatern Rhamnus), which «will contribute to the enrichment of the Portuguese autochthonous forest in the municipality».

Organized by the City Council, this initiative – which includes the participation of Unions and Parish Councils, the school community and the population in general – will reforest some precincts in basic schools, public spaces and the Municipal Park of Sítio das Fontes, in Estômbar.
