JSD/Algarve was pleased to see the Government moving towards the challenges that its leader Carlos Gouveia Martins launched in 2016, so that «a proposal aimed at transforming the Hospital of Faro in a Hospital Center of a University nature in the Algarve».

The young Social Democrats recalled, in a press release, that they had defended a solution of this nature on several occasions and found it strange that "the silence" of the three parties that support the Government on the use of what they consider to be their idea, since "the JSD it was the only political structure in the Algarve that addressed this matter».

This position of the young social democrats was disclosed following the interview given by the new president of the ARS Algarve to Sul Informação, where revealed that the creation of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) is «for weeks».

«JSD/Algarve corroborates the words of the new president of ARS/Algarve on the region's need for the equation of a Central University Hospital, congratulating his public demonstration of will, which is similar to that of the Minister of Health on this matter , which, in due course, we also saluted for publicly defending a proposal presented by the JSD», they say.

As for the PS, CDU and BE, Carlos Gouveia Martins says he does not understand «the deafening silence of the political parties that support the Government of António Costa in the Algarve», since «there is always the possibility of PS, PCP and BE defending Mr. . Minister of Health not mentioning who had the courage to launch the debate on the University Hospital Center in the region».

What was already certain would exist, and since March 2016, was the Academic Center for Research and Biomedical Training of the Algarve, a consortium between the University of Algarve and the Algarve Hospital Center, sponsored by the current Minister of Health.

About a year ago, Adalberto Campos Fernandes and his Science, Technology and Higher Education counterpart, Manuel Heitor, were in the region to lay the foundations for this project, announcing that the intention of this structure was to enhance the link between research and training of doctors in the Algarve academy, with hospitals in the region, in order to secure more doctors and make the region more attractive to young clinicians.
