The Court of Auditors «dismissed the need for a visa prior to the renegotiated contract of the Baixo Alentejo Sub-concession», announced today the company Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP).

This decision allows the entry into force, at the beginning of April, of the new sub-concession contract, whose object was reduced, through the suspension of construction and requalification works of some roads and the removal of road sections, as is the case of the reversal for the direct jurisdiction of the IP of the IC1 section between Alcácer do Sal (kilometre 3,4) and Grândola Norte (kilometre 19,1).

"The effective return of the jurisdiction of this road will allow IP to carry out the improvement works that this road needs, ensuring the restoration as soon as possible of safe circulation conditions for the thousands of motorists who use the IC1 daily", he adds the IP.

In view of the «current deficit state of conservation of the IC1 section between Alcácer do Sal and Grândola Norte», Infraestruturas de Portugal will carry out an intervention with «urgency character» in order to «eliminate or mitigate a good part of the current problems of the road ».

This work of functional rehabilitation of the road will include the punctual correction of the pavement, as well as the leveling and regularization of the road platform and the shoulders, explains IP.

This immediate solution, to be implemented as of April, will enable the «increase of the safety conditions in the circulation of the IC1, until it is possible to start the contract for deep rehabilitation of the pavement, whose project is in the final phase of revision».

The contract for the deepest structural requalification of the IC1 will be launched by public tender next April, and is budgeted at around 6 million euros.
