The Territorial Command of Faro The GNR will carry out clarification actions on the prevention of forest fires throughout the district, but «especially with the population that resides in the municipalities that have a larger forest area and where risk factors are more present».

These actions will be developed through the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA) in coordination with the Intervention Group for Protection and Relief (GIPS).

The GNR says it will clarify the populations «on the importance of preventive procedures to be adopted at this time of year, namely on the use of fire, cleaning and removal of weeds and maintenance of fuel management lanes, with a view to reducing the number of occurrences and the minimization of forest fire risks'.

The Guard highlights “the necessary and so important management of fuels, a procedure that consists of cleaning the land, by cutting and removing the plant biomass therein, a factor that constitutes an essential element for minimizing the risk of fire”.

The clarification actions are carried out in collaboration with the Algarve's municipalities, parish councils and local associations, based on the premise "that the forest belongs to everyone and that it is up to everyone to preserve and protect".

The GNR adds that, as of April 15, "inspection actions will be carried out with the aim of correcting situations of notorious non-compliance, given the mandatory maintenance of fuel management bands, applying the competent administrative offense regime instituted" .

Failure to clean the land can lead to fines ranging from 140 euros to 5000 euros for individuals, 800 euros and 60 thousand euros for legal persons.
