The Hospital de Portimão will recover all the skills it lost after the merger of the Algarve hospitals into a single structure, the CHA, with the creation of the new Algarve University Hospital Centre, which, according to the new president of the Algarve Regional Health Administration (ARS) Paulo Morgado, "has been for weeks".

«Portimão was the one who lost the most with the merger of hospitals. Our idea is to return the services that have been lost in the meantime», guaranteed the new head of health in the region, in an exclusive interview with Sul Informação.

“It's not an easy or immediate process, because it depends on the professionals. Now, what we want is to give back to Portimão what it lost. We want you to have at least what you had before the merger. I assume that. I can't commit to dates, but that's the goal,” said Paulo Morgado.

In addition to recovering skills, the Hospital de Portimão will also "become a stronger link to the University of Algarve and its Medicine course, which will also be linked to CHUA".

The new model to be implemented in Algarve hospitals provides a structure with four poles: the two hospitals that existed before the creation of the CHA in 2011 (Faro and Barlavento Algarvio), the Center for Medicine and Physical Rehabilitation of the South and a research center at the University of Algarve.

And, despite continuing to exist a single Board of Directors, the different units will see their autonomy reinforced. In other words, each hospital will have “a separate clinical and nursing manager and governance”.

In the case of Portimão, it will maintain, as before, a close relationship with the Hospital de Lagos, whose continuity is also assured, guaranteed Paulo Morgado.
