DRCAlg considers that the approval of these candidacies comes “rewarding the effort of the small work team” of that Regional Directorate, which “has put all its efforts into raising funds to safeguard and enhance the classified heritage that is related to it”.

DRCAlg also reveals that it integrates "other joint applications in which the immaterial dimension is of particular relevance" and whose appraisal is ongoing, such as the "Cultural Week dedicated to Places of Globalization", with the Vicentina Association, which is also being prepared a “joint application with several partners in the region, under the aegis of safeguarding and enhancing the Mediterranean Diet”.

«Aware that needs always exceed availability, we have been annually harmonizing the needs for intervention in heritage and identifying priorities, certain that the competitiveness of the Algarve's territory is also related to cultural and heritage resources, and to the capacity of several public entities create investment synergies in these fields”, adds DRCAlg.

Regarding the five candidacies now approved by CRESC Algarve2020, within the scope of investments aimed at the Conservation, Protection, Promotion and Development of the Cultural and Natural Heritage (PI-6.3, Priority Axis 4 – Strengthening the Territory's Competitiveness), the Regional Directorate emphasizes that «the preservation, rehabilitation and enhancement of cultural heritage have significant relevance for the promotion and affirmation of the cultural identity of the Algarve region».

«Conserving and restoring heritage implies the proper use of practices and working methods in constant evolution to bequeath our history to future generations», practices and methods that will now be allowed by the funds contained in the approved projects.
