Vilamoura Marina will inaugurate an International High Performance Sailing Center on Friday, February 17th. The «Vilamoura Sailing – Hi Performance Centre» was born from a partnership between the Companhia Náutica and the Vilamoura Marina and «will allow high competition sailing athletes to find the ideal place to train and train», according to the latter entity.

The center will be open year-round, although its “high season” is expected to be between October and May, that is, in the months when the region has fewer tourists.

As «most central and northern European countries do not have favorable weather and sea conditions for the training of teams», the Vilamoura Marina winks at these athletes, who «will have the opportunity to plan the stages according to the specifics of the teams, such as the physical condition of the athletes, the appropriate diet for the intended performance, technical and theoretical support and psychological support».

Those who choose to intern in Vilamoura will also have at their disposal a diversified fleet of vessels of the Optimist, 420, 29ers, Laser Standard (Olympic class), Laser Radial (Olympic class), Laser 4.9 and 470 (Olympic class) classes. “In addition to sailing vessels, the center also has a fleet of semi-rigid boats for coaches,” he added.

“This new equipment is expected to attract athletes from Northern Europe, mainly due to weather conditions, hotels and Asia, which can thus establish a training base in Europe. Therefore, the High Performance Center is an equipment that will contribute to combat the seasonality of the Algarve, providing the Vilamoura Marina with yet another differentiating factor and regional development», concluded the Vilamoura Marina.
