The Spanish Guardia Civil's experience in protecting the historical and cultural heritage will be made known at the conference «La Guardia Civil en la proteccion integral del Patrimonio Histórico y Cultural Español», which will take place on 7 March, at the Teresa Gamito do Auditorium. University of Algarve's Gambelas Campus, in Faro.

This initiative takes place within the scope of the protocol signed between the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the Territorial Command of the GNR of Faro. In May 2016, the two entities started a collaboration aimed at protecting the Algarve's heritage, namely what is found in more desertified areas, in the GNR's area of ​​jurisdiction.

Since then, the GNR soldiers have been receiving training to better safeguard the territory's wealth. On 7 March, Commander Marco Gómez Romera, from the Civil Guard of Spain, will make another contribution to the new mission undertaken by this security force in the Algarve.

The guest speaker will present the reality of Spain, where, since 1985, the Guardia Civil has actively participated in the control and surveillance of the historical heritage, «in the context of terrestrial and underwater archeology». It will also discuss how “how you proceed in the investigation of your crimes”.

The training action that is taking place has the participation of professors from the University of Algarve and municipal technicians in the area of ​​cultural heritage, as well as professors from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, «has been recording a high level of satisfaction and adhesion”, according to the Regional Directorate of Culture.
